McKelvey-Guthrie family papers, 1767-1837.

Papers include legal documents, property records, a military commission, and other items pertaining to the McKelvey and Guthrie families. Legal documents and property records include deeds, a bond, a will, and a land survey. The deeds (1783, 1801) and land survey (1767) concern a tract of land on Long Cane Creek in Abbeville District (South Carolina) granted to Alexander McKelvey. The tract was conveyed to Margaret McKelvey (mother of Alexander McKelvey), and later conveyed to Thomas Guthrie and then William Richards. The John Guthrie will is dated 1826. Other papers include a poem (1826) on the death of George Washington either composed or copied by Peter D. Guthrie, and Osborn Guthrie's commission (1837) as a lieutenant in the South Carolina militia.
